Originally a class assignment rendered in mixed media, I was asked to submit it to Atheneum for publication. It was returned with what must be the nicest rejection letter ever. The art director at the time, 1968-9, loved it, but it was too short for even plating and would have required an individual pass through the press for nearly every color. At that time, this poem, as far as I knew, was in public domain.
